Obtaining a Florida Marriage License
Marriage licenses are obtained at the Clerk of the Circuit Court, Marriage License Division. The license is valid for 60 days. There is no waiting period for non-residents of Florida nor blood tests. Florida residents have a choice of a three day waiting period or attending a four hour class. The Sarasota County Clerk of the Circuit Court accepts cash or personal checks. Some courthouses will take credit cards. Please see the links below to find out if this applies to you. Identification with a photograph (i.e. driver's license or passport) and your Social Security card is required, as well as the date any previous marriages ended. The couple needs to go to the Court House together. Bring the license to the ceremony so the witnesses (not required) and the officiant can sign it. The license will be mailed back to the Court House so the marriage can be registered with the State of Florida .
